Professor Veniamin Gives Lectures As Part of Parish’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

On the weekend of January 15-17, 2017, Professor Christopher Veniamin delivered three lectures as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Saint Peter the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church in Pomona, California.  Metropolitan Joseph, the Metropolitan of the Antiochian Orthodox Church of North America, presided over the festivities, and Professor Veniamin’s Lectures were a significant part of the weekend’s celebrations.

Dr. Veniamin, Professor of Patristics at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in Northeast Pennsylvania and President and Founder of Mount Thabor Publishing (2005), spoke on the topic of Salvation in the Orthodox Church in three lectures: “Metanoia: Repentance in the Orthodox Church (audio, video)”, “Hesychia: Preparation for Encounter with God (audio, video)”, and “Theosis: The Writings of St. Silouan the Athonite and Archimandrite Sophrony (audio, video)”.

A spiritual son of Father Sophrony of the Monastery of Saint John the Baptist in Essex (England), Professor Veniamin has produced an English translation of Saint Gregory Palamas: the Homilies with thorough annotations.  Mount Thabor Publishing has also published books by Archimandrite Zacharias, Professor Constantine Scouteris, and Klaus Kenneth.  Dr. Veniamin is also Professor and Assistant Director of the Doctoral Program (PhD) in Orthodox Studies of the Antiochian Orthodox Institute and Antiochian House of Studies.

July 2, 2015Dr. Christopher Veniamin, Professor of Patristics at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in Northeast Pennsylvania, will be speaking at The 64th Annual Eastern Diocese Parish Life Conference at St. John Antiochian Orthodox Church in Levittown, New York.

Professor Christopher Veniamin is a spiritual child of Elder Sophrony of Essex, holds his first degree in Theology from the University of Thessalonica (Greece), and obtained his doctorate from Oxford University, under the supervision of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. He is the editor and translator of Saint Gregory Palamas: The Homilies (2009 and 2014), and the author of The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation: “Theosis” in Scripture and Tradition (2013, 2014 repr. ed.).

Dr. Veniamin is also the President and Founder of Mount Thabor Publishing, which was established in 2005, and has edited and published books by Archimandrite Zacharias, Professor Constantine Scouteris, and Klaus Kenneth.

February 10, 2015Dr. Christopher Veniamin, Professor of Patristics at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in Northeast Pennsylvania, will visit the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute (PAOI) in Berkeley CA. During his visit, Professor Veniamin will meet with faculty and doctoral students of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) for a lunchtime Roundtable Discussion, and later that evening he will address the Orthodox Christian Fellowship.

Prof. Veniamin will give a presentation based on his recently-released book, The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation: “Theosis” in Scripture and Tradition, followed by a Q&A session.

His specific topic will be:-

“The Power of Repentance: The Ethos of ‘Metanoia’ in the Orthodox Tradition.”

Fr. Zacharias to Visit Toronto Mission of Compassion

Fr. Zacharias, a monk and spiritual guide from the monastery founded by Elder Sophrony, in Essex, England, is a disciple of St. Silouan the Athonite and the author of several best-selling books. The Elder will graciously give three retreats at St. Silouan the Athonite Mission and St. John the Compassionate Mission, 155 Broadview Avenue, in Toronto Ontario, M4M 2E9, from February 12 to the 16, 2014.

Fr Zacharias’ rich schedule at St. Silouan the Athonite Mission Parish and St. John the Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada will be as follows:-

Wednesday, February – 12 Compline and a brief address from Fr. Zacharias at 8:30 PM
Thursday, February 13 – Clergy Retreat 9 AM to 2 PM

Prof. Christopher Veniamin – Guest Speaker for “Spiritual Day” in Pickering ON, Canada

Dr. Christopher Veniamin, Professor of Patristics at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan PA and President of Mount Thabor Publishing, has been graciously invited to address college students from three Coptic Orthodox parishes in the vicinity of St. Mary & St. John The Beloved Coptic Orthodox Church in Pickering ON, on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Thanks to Fr. Daniel Bessada, the day will begin with the Divine Liturgy, which will be followed by two presentations (with time for Questions), the first in the morning, the second in the afternoon.

Based on Prof. Veniamin’s recently published book, The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation, the first presentation will be, “The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation: ‘Theosis’ in St. Silouan the Athonite and Elder Sophrony of Essex”; and the second, “The Orthodox Interpretation of Holy Scripture: St. Gregory Palamas and the Key to Understanding the Bible.”
