Dr. Veniamin Invited Speaker at International Symposium on Apocryphal Literature, Thessalonica

June 26, 2014 @ 8:00 am - June 29, 2014 @ 5:00 pm

Dr. Christopher Veniamin (D.Phil. Oxon.), Professor of Patristics, is an Invited Speaker at the International Symposium on Christian Apocryphal Literature, which will take place at the University of Thessalonica from June 26-29, 2014.

Bringing together some of the world’s leading authorities in the New Testament and early Christian literature, the organisers of the Symposium have asked Professor Veniamin to present a paper on “The Transfiguration in Pre-Nicene Apocryphal Literature”.
The event will include the Divine Liturgy on the Feast of SS. Peter and Paul (June 29), at Vlatadon Monastery (14th century), built on the site where St. Paul gave his first address to the Thessalonians; and also, on the Synaxis of the Twelve Apostles (June 30), a circumnavigation of Mount Athos by cruise ship.

NOTA BENE: The term “Invited Speaker” means that all expenses – plane tickets (in this case, during peak season), hotel charges, the cost of meals and all other expenses – are fully covered by the sponsors of the conference, which in effect amounts to the award of a small grant that relieves one’s self and one’s own academic institution from incurring any of the usual expenses.
Professor Veniamin is a spiritual child of Elder Sophrony of Essex, holds his first degree in Theology from the University of Thessalonica (Greece), and obtained his doctorate from Oxford University, under the supervision of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. He is the editor and translator of Saint Gregory Palamas: The Homilies (2009 and 2014), and the author of The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation: “Theosis” in Scripture and Tradition (2013). Dr. Veniamin is also the President of Mount Thabor Publishing, which was established in 2005, and has edited and published  books by Archimandrite Zacharias, Professor Constantine Scouteris, and Klaus Kenneth.
