Did St. Sophrony give prayer rules and advice on fasting?
Answer
St. Sophrony avoided prescribing prayer rules. He would say, “Do what you can.” He didn’t want your next Confession to be, “Father, I didn’t manage to keep my prayer rule.”
It was the same regarding fasting. St. Sophrony emphasized and required two things in particular of his monastics: self-discipline, and no self-justification.
