The author is the Spiritual Father of our parish priest and we therefore are blessed to hear his uplifting and edifying guidance on a regular basis through weekly homilies and other pastoral guidance. This volume, along with other Fr. Zacharias publications, serve as great additions to our family library and spiritual reading rule.

This is my favorite book by Archimandrite Zacharias. I first learned of it years ago through his recorded lectures, 'The Three Stages of the Spiritual Life', selected from an historic series of lectures by Fr Zacharias and published by Patristic Nectar. The book, Remember Thy First Love, is the full message of those important lectures, and before now I had only the ebook edition. The printed book was rather expensive ten years ago, so when this new edition was announced at a significantly reduced price, I did not hesitate, and am so glad to have it. I expect to carry it with me and plunge into it anew. Thank you, Mount Thabor Press!!!
The title itself, “Remember Thy First Love”, is a tender beckoning that calls us to greater intimacy with Him who is love. We learn how to become more like him; how to “live Christ” in the simplicity of a humble and loving heart. This book is a “desktop” book; not a “library shelf” book. I find myself rereading bits and pieces of it each day and find every bit spiritually nourishing. It is an easy read, clear print and well organized. Remember Thy First Love is a book that you purchase for yourself plus one or several copies as gifts to share with others. So far I have purchased three copies and will likely purchase a few more. They were all very well received and appreciated. Mount Thabor Publishing has a wonderful selection of Christ centered books of varying degrees of complexity; something for everyone. "Remember Thy First Love" by Archimandrite Zacharias is beautiful, both as a physical book and in content. It is a treasure of Orthodox traditional teaching from a contemporary monastic who writes from experience--both his own and his spiritual forefathers, Sts. Sophrony and Silouan.

I immediately fell in love with this book. It nourished my soul. This book is filled with depth!! It's truly a wealth of wisdom to be digested slowly and carefully. It's not a difficulty book to read at all, but if you are looking for a quick light read, it's not for you.

This is a spiritually profitable book that will take more than one reading to absorb everything. The author seems to repeat himself often, but perhaps the repetition can help reinforce the ideas that he is presenting. I would describe this book as a "Spiritual Handbook." The book will be of maximum value if one puts into practice what one reads, rather than to read it just for head knowledge, which will profit one very little. It is not light reading to relax, but rather weighty reading, which is meant to be practiced. Apparently this book was written as part of some lectures or retreat since there is a section of “Questions and Answers” that starts on page 339 for some, not all, of the chapters. I kept two bookmarks in my book as I read it; one for the chapter I was reading and the other for the corresponding questions and answers. I found it easier to focus on the questions when the chapter was fresh in my mind. This book can be of great benefit in aiding the spiritual warfare that a Christian must wage.
Very good book, recommended to me by an abbot at a retreat. Still reading but definitely a timeless book with infinite wisdom :)
It's absolutely the right book if you're experiencing God-forsakenness in a more or less degree. The words of Archimandrite Zacharias are so filled up with Grace.
This book is a true spiritual jewel, and I can't recommend it enough. Whether you are an Orthodox Christian who has been living in the Orthodox Church for years, or a newcomer to Orthodoxy, you WILL benefit a lot from this book. Make sure you read it with a pencil ready, to underline thoughts which you find to be particularly important and/or inspiring for you. Believe me, there will be A LOT of such thoughts in this book!
best christian book. this book is amazing! I read it and I am going to read it again soon because there is so much to learn from it. Definitely brought me closer to God.
This is one fabulous book. I cannot put it down. The writer draws you to be introspective and is very inspirational. I sometimes reach out and just open it up to any page, and read and read and read. Even if I just read a couple of pages, I get so much out of it. I would recommend this highly - especially to those who are serious about their faith and their journey to salvation. Very very good.
