ST. GREGORY PALAMAS represents Orthodox theology at its most sublime. Patristic theology in the fourteenth century, of which St. Gregory is indubitably the greatest exponent, touched the very boundaries of theological expression.
St. Gregory’s sermons are among the finest in Patristic literature. In his treatment of the manifold themes contained therein, he is remarkably consistent in maintaining a balance between originality of thought and strict adherence to the tradition of his predecessors. Moreover, his genius resides in the ease with which he demonstrates, as only a master of the spiritual life can, the refreshingly practical significance of the doctrines of the Church for the Life in Christ.
About the Editor
Dr. Christopher Veniamin is a spiritual child of St. Sophrony the Athonite (1896-1993).
Born and raised in London, England, of Greek Cypriot parents, Dr. Veniamin holds his first degree in theology from the University of Thessalonica and his doctorate from the University of Oxford. He is Emeritus Professor of Patristics at St. Tikhon's Seminary in Pennsylvania, and Dean & COO Emeritus at the Antiochian House of Studies in California, where he also served as Professor of Patristic Theology and Dogmatics, established the Ph.D.Program in Orthodox Studies, and spearheaded the drive for full accreditation with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in North America and Canada.
Prof. Veniamin's works include Saint Gregory Palamas: The Homilies; The Orthodox Understanding of Salvation: "Theosis" in Scripture and Tradition; and The Transfiguration of Christ in Greek Patristic Literature: From Irenaeus of Lyons to Gregory Palamas.
Dr. Veniamin also holds the four-year Degree in Byzantine Music from the celebrated School of St. Romanus Melodus and St. John Damascene in Thessalonica, and is a pupil of Eleftherios Georgiades, former Lampadarios of the Great Church of Christ.
Prof. Veniamin is also the Founder and President of Mount Thabor Publishing (MTP), established in 2005 to produce quality books in Orthodox theology and the spiritual life, and the presenter of videos and podcasts for The Mount Thabor Academy, on the interrelationship between theology and spiritual life of the Orthodox Church, with particular reference to the Holy Bible and the witness of the Church Fathers, past and present.
PHILOSOPHY OF PURPOSE: Why the two forms, The Homilies and the Sermons?
Our edition of Saint Gregory Palamas: The Homilies (800-pages) contains all sixty-three extant sermons of St. Gregory.
The series, “Sermons by Saint Gregory Palamas”, is a selection of St. Gregory’s homilies arranged thematically (each booklet is about 60 to 90 pages), but does not contain all sixty-three of his sermons.
The “Sermons” is currently comprised of The Saving Work of Christ, Mary the Mother of God, On the Saints, The Parables of Jesus, and Miracles of the Lord.
The reason for producing both of the above editions is twofold.
Firstly, The Homilies, are offered chiefly with scholars and pastors in mind, and thus contains a detailed introduction, scholia and indexes.
Secondly, “The Sermons”, are published mainly with church schools, homeschooling, and study groups in mind, providing just the simple text at an affordable price, and presupposes that the instructor would be teaching from the 800-page complete edition of The Homilies, thereby availing the class or group of its additional pedagogical materials.

It should be no surprise that these homilies contain a wealth of knowledge and spiritual guidance from St. Palamas. But the superior quality of the hardcover book is truly a surprise! Mount Tabor Publishing has delivered a beautiful volume that stands above many other publishers who produce cheap and ugly reproductions of ancient Orthodox writings. Dr. Veniamin's translation is surely pleasing to St. Sophrony! Thank you!

St Gregory Palamas - as captured in this newly-released, even extraordinary compendium of his extant 63 sermons - obviously to me preached his sermons to his congregations in medieval Thessaloniki in such an organized yet user friendly way, so that his parishioners could consistently digest the key Trinitarian doctrines focusing on the intimate relationships within the Godhead, with the Lordship of Jesus Christ always being properly prioritized, with the Lord always operating in the Power of the Life-Giving Holy Spirit, the often to me unappreciated member of the Trinity. I had never before read of The LORD God Almighty (El Shaddai) referred to as the 'Unoriginated' One. Aptly put. Such is the humble genius of this great Father of the Orthodox Church. Christians from any background could greatly expand their theological horizons by mediating on these erudite yet digestible book contents. I will treasure this book for the rest of my earthly life. Jesus is Lord!
This is a fantastic book with 68 of his homilies that are 6-10 pages in length. Great to add to daily meditation. So inspirational and even though from the 1300s they are spot on for today
I got so hooked by the 6 sermons on the Theotokos little booklet that I had to have all 63 sermons. Quality print and binding. Dr Veniamin is a great translator, because it's simple enough that you don't need to be an academic with a dictionary on standby to read it.

As a newer Orthodox Christian, I find his homilies to be life giving and so inspiring. I will treasure his teachings and read over them year after year, God willing. Beautifully bound and printed copy of all St Gregory's homilies in English. The book is a delight to read, with handsomely designed pages and spacious margins for annotations. It has over 1200 footnotes giving the original Greek behind St Gregory's text and other explanatory comments, for those wishing to delve more deeply into the work.
This volume has become one of my prized books. The sermons of St. Gregory Palamas have greatly affected me and challenged me and given me a deeper understanding of the Orthodox life. Dr. Veniamin's scholarly notes are worth the price of the volume by themselves. His insights into St. Gregory's sermons are at times breathtaking. I was an ordained Protestant pastor for over 30 years and if I had read this volume during that time my journey to Orthodoxy would have ended much sooner. Great collection of St. Gregory Palamas homilies. Homilies cover most of the feasts of Church liturgical year so can be read every year following the calendar. Readability is great, very good translation by C. Veniamin. The minor problem I had with shipping to UK was solved by the publisher with great care, honestly they cared more for geting the book to me as soon as possible than for their own profit. Also the book came well packed which is very important especially if its a gift. We need more orthodox publishers like this.

The Homilies of St. Gregory Palamas present the Sacred Tradition of the Patristic Fathers in a very clear and practical way, touching upon various relevant topics for his day, and ours. The translation provided by Dr. Christopher Veniamin, who was raised in that Patristic Tradition himself, brings the Greek text alive for the modern reader. For those who are familiar with Greek, the notes (scholia) on the homilies allows the scholar to consider deeper nuances of the original text, as well as historical and theological aspects for contemplation. The volume itself is beautifully produced in both quality and appearance. I have found that the works published by Mt. Thabor Publishing are of similar quality and make a great addition to the library of all who seek to understand the wisdom and ethos of the Patristic Tradition. E.C. This is an amazing volume, of great value to preachers, teachers, students, and theologians. The sermons are wonderful, and the exacting notes, provided by Professor Veniamin, are valuable theological lessons which exhibit the highest degree of scholarship.

A wonderful translation and very well put together book. Part of it is due to Saint Gregory himself and the way that he writes to a wide audience, not too scholarly and not too common! But a lot is to be said about the translation itself; very well done, very enjoyable to read, which is why I purchased an extra one as a gift and we'll probably order more in the future for other gifts; it is a fantastic volume to read during Great Lent. Very well done!

Beautiful book. I also got the other small volumes of his sermons, not realizing that they were just smaller collections from the main tome. I ended up donating them to our parish library.
How can you go wrong? The book is a compilation of St. Gregory Palamas' sermons, over 650 pages worth not counting the indexes. it is beautifully bound and typeset. It includes indexes of scriptural references, names and locations, and Greek words. Cleary much careful planning went into the creation of this very fine book. I hesitated a bit because of the cost, but considering the content and the quality of production the price is entirely reasonable and I am grateful to the publisher for making it available and glad that I purchased it. The order was fulfilled promptly too.

The homilies of St. Gregory Palamas is a great resource for priests, scholars and laity alike. Dr. Veniamin has done a fantastic job in translating the saints work. The footnotes and the appendix are extremely helpful in unpacking the homilies within the context of the Holy Scriptures. Definitely a great add to my library!
