Collection: St. Sophrony the Athonite

St. Sophrony the Athonite, realizing that he was not going to learn how to pray at Seminary, left the world for the ascetic life of Mount Athos, and became a monk at the Russian Monastery of St Panteleimon, where he met his spiritual father, St. Silouan the Athonite. Following his publication of St. Silouan's life and writings, and owing to a fascinating conjunction of circumstances, the providence of God inspired St. Sophrony to establish the Monastery of St. John the Baptist, in Essex, England, which has become a comfort and oasis for spiritual renewal to countless souls throughout the world.
